New Jersey Defunds Planned Parenthood

The state of New Jersey has joined a growing list of states that have cut off Planned Parenthood from taxpayer funds, even for non-abortion related services.
The State Column is reporting that Gov. Chris Christie not only wrote Planned Parenthood funding out of the state’s budget last month, but he also took a second step on April 5 by eliminating a federal waiver put in place by pro-abortion Gov. Jon Corzine that would have reimbursed the abortion provider up to 90 percent for Medicaid services.
In total, Christie's move has amounted to a $7.4 million loss for Planned Parenthood, which could mean closing as many as four of the five clinics they currently operate in the state.
To date, seven other states, including Mississippi and South Dakota, have cut off funding to Planned Parenthood even for non-abortion services.
Last year, the abortion provider took in $350 million in taxpayer funds, even though the organization currently faces 107 criminal charges for a variety of offenses from failure to report the sexual abuse of minors to defrauding the State of California out of $180 million in taxpayer funds.
The state’s pro-life groups are hailing the move. “It’s time this gravy train ended,” said Marie Tasy, president of NJ Right to Life. “ Taxpayers should not be funding this organization. Governor Christie should be commended for this courageous move.”
