by Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist Planned Parenthood is appealing to pro-abortion Catholics to counter the initiative launched law week by the U.S. Bishops to oppose the current health care reform bills because of their many anti-life provisions. According to a report by OneNationUnderGod.org, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards sent an e-mail to supporters this week, asking all pro-abortion Catholics to fight back. "One thing I know for sure - the bishops don't speak for all Catholics," Ms. Richards says in her e-mail. She also misleads supporters by saying that the Bishops successful efforts "could be devastating to everyone who desperately needs health care, including the women, men, and teens that Planned Parenthood serves." Lisa Correnti, Founder and Director of One Nation Under God, says the reality is that Richards is just using her supporters for her own selfish gain and that pro-abortion Catholics need to "pause just a moment and ask themselves, which master will they serve - Planned Parenthood or Christ?”     The Bishops have always advocated for health care for all, she explains, but are opposed to health care that includes abortion mandates and taxpayer funded abortions.  As a result of these policies, the bishops issued a nationwide action alert asking Catholics to contact members of Congress and urge them to fix the health care bills by adding pro-life amendments. A prepared bulletin insert, which was sent to 19,000 parishes, states that “all committee approved bills are seriously deficient on the issues of abortion and conscience...health care reform should be about saving lives, not destroying them." The faithful are urged to take immediate action by calling, faxing and/or e-mailing their congressional representatives. Correnti urges Catholics to ignore Planned Parenthood’s deceptive appeal. “Planned Parenthood will never be concerned with the uniqueness and dignity of each human person. They are not concerned that their agenda of ‘sexual freedom’ for all causes teens unhappiness and inflicts wounds they will carry through their adulthood.
