Woman “Tweets” Her Abortion

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist In what should be considered an all-time low in disrespect for human life, a Florida woman used Twitter to share her experience of having an abortion after taking the abortion pill known as RU-486. According to a report by the New York Daily News, Angie Jackson, 27, a single mother of a four year-old boy with special needs, decided to have an abortion last month after discovering that her birth control device had failed and she was pregnant. "I had made a decision when my son was born to try to not get pregnant again, and if that failed I'd planned that I would get an abortion if I needed one," Jackson told ABCNews.com. She went to her local Planned Parenthood in Tampa, Florida and was given RU486, commonly known as the “abortion pill.” In an attempt to “demystify” abortion, she decided to share her experience of the abortion on Twitter, YouTube and her personal blog. Under the username “antitheistangie”, she wrote entries such as “"Cramps are getting a bit more persistent," followed by “definitely bleeding now" a few hours later.  More than 1,000 people followed her ordeal on Twitter, although not everyone did so because they were applauding her courage.  “I’ve just been astonished by the level of hatred and death threats and threats of violence against my son. It’s been a very ugly side of people to see,” she told the Web site The Frisky. In fact, an on-line poll conducted by the Family Research Council (FRC) found an overwhelming majority of people calling her actions “tasteless” with only 36 percent saying they thought she was sincere in her efforts educate people.  Calling her decision a “tragedy,” FRC director Jeanne Monahan said that “supporting her decision to abort her baby unintentionally does a grave injustice to Angie, her unborn child, her son and even her boyfriend. Abortion kills one person and wounds at least one additional person.” © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com
