During a second day of hearings, Justice Nicholas Francis, the judge presiding over the case of Charlie Gard, an 11 month old baby who is dying of mitochondrial depletion syndrome, has agreed to allow a New York doctor to examine the child to assess the efficacy of further treatment before rendering his decision on July 25.

Pope Francis issued a Motu proprio earlier this week in which he declared a new category of Christian life which will now be suitable for consideration of beatification – the “offering of life, or oblatio vitae, which occurs when a person dies prematurely because they have offered their life for love of God and neighbor.

A 15 year-old boy was found hanging in his closet in his San Antonio, Texas home last weekend after playing the deadly “Blue Whale Challenge” game that involves youth completing dangerous tasks for 50 days with the final “challenge” being to commit suicide.
