Planned Parenthood Operates Clinic in LA High School

In an effort to curb soaring teen pregnancy rates, Planned Parenthood has opened a clinic inside a public high school in Los Angeles where students can now received "reproductive health" counseling and birth control without their parents' knowledge.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Roosevelt High School, which is located in a low-income, heavily Latino area with a disproportionately high teen pregnancy rate, has opened an on-campus clinic which provides free birth control, pregnancy tests, counseling and screening for sexually transmitted diseases.

According to the Times, the partnership has been in place for several years and has been effective:

"The campus began offering contraception and counseling in 1997. But in 2006, a collaboration with a local hospital ended and the school no longer had the resources to provide free contraceptives. In 2008, [nurse practitioner Sherry] Medrano said, she saw 32 positive pregnancy tests during her peak period between March 1 and June 1 — around the time of spring break and prom," the Times reports.

"Medrano then reached out to Planned Parenthood, which now provides a medical assistant, the contraceptives and the pregnancy and STDs testing. The organization bills Family PACT, a public program that provides family planning to low-income and uninsured California residents."

By 2009, Medrano says she saw only three pregnancies during the same time period. However, the numbers have since begun to climb again, which is not surprising for a school that encourages sexual activity by providing free birth control.

It is unclear whether Planned Parenthood offers abortion services at the school, or refers students to other Planned Parenthood clinics for such procedures.

According to Life News, Medrano made it clear that having the Planned Parenthood clinic inside the school makes it easier for the abortion business to target students because they have become "more comfortable" with the services.

Leading pro-life groups, like the American Center for Law and Justice, are concerned about Planned Parenthood qualifying for Obamacare funds to operate more of these clinics in schools where they will be able to continue to prey on teens without their parents' knowledge.

The controversial health care reform law provides taxpayer funds for establishing "school-based health centers" which could be run by abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood. Even though the law prevents clinics from being used for abortion services, it allows them to make abortion referrals to other facilities.
