Guard Shot During Domestic Terror Incident inside Pro-Life Group Headquarters

Witnesses say a man who shot a security guard inside the Washington DC headquarters of the Family Research Council (FRC), a pro-life lobbying group, made statements opposing the group's mission before opening fire on the guard.

Fox News is reporting that the incident occurred inside the FRC headquarters at approximately 10:45 a.m. yesterday. Sources said the shooter made statements regarding FRC policies just before opening fire and shooting Leo Johnson, a security guard, in the arm. Johnson and another guard managed to wrestle the man to the ground and take away his gun. While doing so, the shooter said, "Don't shoot me, it was not about you, it was what this place stands for."

At the moment, authorities are treating the attack as a case of domestic terrorism, although James McJunkin, the head of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, said authorities do not yet know the gunman's motive.

FRC President Tony Perkins confirmed the incident, issuing a statement calling for prayer for Johnson and his family. "The police are investigating this incident," he said. "Our first concern is with our colleague who was shot today. Our concern is for him and his family.”

Washington D.C. police Chief Cathy Lanier called Johnson a hero. “As far as I’m concerned, the security officer here is a hero,” she said. “The persona never made it past him.”
