Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee could not have been happy when he heard about the vulgar criticism his daughter, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, received from comedian Chelsea Handler. But the way this Christian minister and father responded was one of the most effective take-downs I’ve ever heard.

The Daily Caller is reporting on the comments the Governor made regarding Handler’s off-color rant about Sanders on her show last Friday. Handler referred to Sanders as a “harlot” and criticized her “summer whore” lipstick.

“I mean, one day she has no makeup on at all, the next she’s got 6’ long eyelashes, cleavage, and summer whore lipstick all over her face,” Handler said.

Instead of being angry, as any father would be, Huckabee said he pitied her.

“I feel sad for Chelsea Handler. She seems like a very angry and bitter person…she seems to just be in a rage. The sad thing about it, she boasts about the two abortions she had at 16, I think in many ways she’s jealous of my daughter.”

He continued: “My daughter has a husband who loves her and is wonderful to her, my daughter has three delightful children, she’s a happy, balanced person. I truly feel sorry for [Handler] and I feel that she’s lashing out at a life that she’s never been able to understand.”

He concluded: “Pray for her that she finds some peace because it’s pretty evident she doesn’t have it right now.”

Now that’s how a true Christian addresses the kind of rude criticism we all face every day – not with another vile attack – but with strong and compassionate fighting words that force our attackers to do a little soul searching.

Kudos to the Governor and let us all pray that Ms. Handler’s heart may be healed and converted by the irresistible love of Jesus Christ.
