Commentary by Susan Brinkmann, OCDSDespite all the hype surrounding the repeal of Ireland’s abortion ban, the first week of legal abortion in that country found only 179 doctors willing to perform the procedure with the remaining 95 percent saying they want no part in it.
The 116th Congress is overwhelmingly Christian with 88 percent of its members professing Christianity. On the other hand, just 0.2 percent identify as “nones” who have no religious affiliation.
The new, pro-abortion majority in the U.S. House of Representatives made a powerful statement on their first day in power by passing a funding bill that would repeal a major pro-life policy. Although it has no hope of being signed into law, this statement must not go unanswered!

Commentary by Susan Brinkmann, OCDSThe March for Life has been a regular occurrence for 45 years and yet the Women’s March, which is only three-years-old, is already floundering with a record number of marches being cancelled across the country. What’s behind the staying power of one march and the rapid fizzling of the other? Perhaps a look at the motivations behind these divergent marches will give us a few clues.
The feast of the Epiphany of Our Lord, traditionally celebrated on January 6th, marks the closing out of the Twelve Days of Christmas. In centuries past, some European countries formulated an annual ritual performed on this day, to bless parishioners’ homes at the start of the New Year. While it is not widely practiced, the Blessing of Homes on Epiphany is still celebrated in many Christian traditions.
On this feast of the Holy Name of Jesus, let us be reminded that the “dawn from on high” that broke upon us nine days ago is still with us in this glorious Christmas season. Has He dawned in your heart yet?
