From time to time, the Church decides on a new entry into the Roman Calendar to be celebrated by the faithful. This was the case in recent times with the Memorial of Mary, Mother of the Church, celebrated this year on June 6th.
On this first celebration of the new Marian Memorial in honor of Mary, Mother of the Church, Pope Francis said the Church is feminine, and when this trait is lacking, it becomes nothing more than a “charitable organization” or a “church of old bachelors” that is incapable of fruitfulness.
A new memorial celebrating the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title, Mother of the Church, has been inserted into the Roman Calendar and will be marked every year on the day after Pentecost.
