The 73-year-old florist from Washington state who has been battling the courts for five years over her refusal to create floral arrangements for a same-sex wedding is getting a second chance to have her case heard in the state’s highest court.
In spite of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in his favor, the Colorado Civil Rights Commission has once again targeted Masterpiece Cakeshop owner Jack Phillips for refusing to bake a “gender-transition” cake.
Oral arguments took place yesterday at the U.S. Supreme Court concerning the right of a baker to refuse to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding. Court watchers found it difficult to discern which way the court might rule on what could be a landmark case for either LGBT rights or religious freedom.
