The mainstream media seems intent on tossing aside its mandate to educate and inform the public by consistently ignoring major news stories that impact negatively on liberal ideologies - including how the IRS is now targeting Christian churches as well as conservative groups.

Newsbusters is reporting that the Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) have once again failed the American public by devoting little or no coverage to the latest IRS scheme to start checking into church sermons across the country.

Apparently, the IRS struck a deal with the atheist group, Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), which sued the IRS for its failure to do a better job policing pulpits for political speech. The FFRF agreed to drop its suit in exchange for an agreement to monitor sermons and homilies for political speech such as condemnation of same-sex marriage, criticism of Obamacare for its contraceptive mandate, anti-abortion speech, and anything else that goes against a liberal point-of-view.

"Government's assault on religious liberty has hit a new low as the IRS settles with atheists by promising to monitor sermons for mentions of the right to life and traditional marriage," explained an editorial in Investors Business Daily.

It goes on to highlight the stunning hypocrisy of the media and others who screamed bloody murder at the mere thought of monitoring mosques for signs of terrorist activity and yet "have no problem with this one, though monitoring what's said in houses of worship is a clear violation of the First Amendment. Can you say 'chilling effect'?"

Congress can make no laws prohibiting the free exercise of religion, the article states. "So it's not clear where the IRS gets off doing just that by spying on religious leaders lest they comment on issues and activities by government that are contrary to or impose on their religious consciences. Our country was founded by people fleeing this kind of government-monitored and mandated theology last practiced in the Soviet Union."

In spite of this horrendous breach of the Constitution and flagrant violation of the rights of Americans, the nation's mainstream media completely ignored this story! How could any reputable news organization not cover such a direct threat against the freedom of the American people? In my view, this is as bad as refusing to report that a foreign invader has landed upon our shores.

Even more chilling is the fact that if they can ignore this one, just imagine what else they're ignoring that we should know about.

Folks, this is not just biased journalism anymore; it's a total breach of the public trust.

Because the almighty rating is all these stations really care about, all fair-minded Americans need to tune out these stations and refuse to allow government propaganda into their homes. If the mainstream media can no longer be trusted to protect us, let's start supporting independent and reliable news sources that will and put the mainstream media out of business!
