Sebelius Signs Pro-Life Bill

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius has signed a bill ensuring that women and girls seeking abortions can see ultrasound images before the procedure.
The legislation, known as S.B. 238, modifies the Woman’s Right-to-Know Act by requiring abortion clinics to provide mothers with a chance to see an ultrasound image and hear the heartbeat of the baby. It also provides additional protection from coercion and requires the state to develop a medically accurate video and print materials regarding fetal development.
It is widely believed that the stridently pro-abortion Catholic governor signed the bill on March 27 to avoid confrontations during next week’s hearings on her nomination as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.
“Clearly Sebelius hopes to avoid any tough questions about her close relationship to the abortion industry,” said Kansas State Senator Tim Huelskamp.
Gov. Sebelius gave no explanation for why she decided to sign the bill, even though she has vetoed ultra sound and woman’s right-to-know bills in the past.
