But My Friend Was Converted in a “Christian” Yoga Class!
We recently received a scathing letter from a Holy Yoga instructor who took us to task for our position against the practice of “Christian yoga.” She believes that because a man in her class asked her to help him accept Jesus as his savior, this proves that God is working in her classes. Is this true? Yes! But not for the reasons she thinks . . .
Not Impressed with “Holy Yoga”
The consciences of some people are pricked by the idea of engaging in the Hindu practice of yoga, which makes Christianizing the practice seem like the perfect fix. But a closer look reveals that attempts to Christianize a Hindu spiritual practice is nothing more than syncretism and many of today’s most popular versions – such as Brooke Boon’s Holy Yoga – are riddled with theological errors.
