CBSAtlanta is reporting that Sara McDonald, who is seven months pregnant, said she was sound asleep early one Saturday morning when her unborn son, Cameron, gave her a kick that was hard enough to jolt her awake. When she did, she happened to glance over at her husband and noticed that he wasn't breathing.
"He didn't even have a heartbeat," Mrs. McDonald said. "He was purple from the waist up. It's one of the scariest moments anyone could go through."
She immediately tried to perform CPR on her husband but when it didn't work, she called the police.
Officers Ryan Campbell and Sgt. Mike Hales responded to the call.
"He appeared deceased. We didn't have a pulse. He wasn't breathing," Hales said.
The officers moved Thomas to the floor and performed CPR. It was only after three dozen chest compressions that he began to breathe on his own.
If it hadn't been for baby Cameron's kick, would she have discovered her unresponsive husband in time to save him?
Probably not.
"It's like my baby saved my husband's life. And he's not even here yet and he saved his dad's life. It's an amazing feeling and I don't think anyone else can say that," she said.
Some might say this was just a life-saving coincidence, but others wonder if perhaps a baby's sense in the womb in stronger than we know. Maybe baby Cameron sensed his father was in distress and acted in the only way that he could - to wake his mother.
Thomas is reportedly doing fine and is looking forward to welcoming his now famous little hero who is due in just a few weeks.
