LifeSiteNews is reporting that Maryland resident Desiree Hawkins was just 16 years old when she became pregnant out of wedlock. When her mother said she'd have to leave home if she had the baby, Desiree felt her only recourse was abortion.
On November 19, 2009, at 19 weeks pregnant, staff at the Hagerstown Reproductive Services told her she was too far along for an abortion at their facility and referred her to Dr. Kermit Gosnell in Philadelphia.
She arrived at Gosnell's clinic in West Philadelphia, now known as if the infamous House of Horrors, on December 5, 2009, when she had the procedure. Little did she know, 41 year old Karnamaya Mongar had died at this same clinic only 15 days earlier from an overdose of anesthesia that was administered by unlicensed medical staff. Gosnell is now facing third degree murder charges in the case.
At some point during the procedure, she remembers Gosnell responded to her stress by telling her to "stop being a baby." When it was over, she vaguely remembers seeing him pick up something and leave the room. To this day, she believes that what he picked up was her baby's body.
Desiree hid this horrible experience in her heart for three years until last month when she received a phone call from a Drug Enforcement agent who told her that one of the "specimens" found in Gosnell's clinic were parts of her aborted baby.
After the call, Desiree's mom remembers how her daughter called her on the phone "screaming at the top of her lungs. Screaming and crying."
They later learned that one of the photos of baby's severed feet that has been circulating online includes the jar with the feet of her child.
"The pictures themselves are horrible," says Desiree's mom tearfully. "Just once you see them ... they stick."
Desiree agrees. "You don't even know how to respond when you find that a human or somebody else has kept the foot of your baby. You don't know how to answer to that. You just want to cry and you just want to get sick. You don't want to believe it. I still don't."
Her mother claims that she thinks about those severed feet every day. " . . . (T)hese are choices that we all live with. . . . I do live with it every day."
