Radical Feminist Demands Sex-Strike to Stop Pro-Life Bill

Commentary by Susan Brinkmann, OCDS

Anyone wondering why most women don't identify with feminism anymore need only look to a column published by a feminist extremist from Texas who is so incensed about the state's plan to ban infanticide that she's calling on all women to stop having sex with men until they start voting in favor of her "right" to kill a viable infant.

Writing for the Huffington Post, feminist Vivian Norris is demanding that women stand up and fight the state legislature which is expected to pass a new law protecting the lives of both women and children by banning all abortions after 20 weeks, insisting that abortion facilities enact safety standards that are on par with other surgical facilities, and that all abortions are performed by licensed doctors.Norris sees these common sense precautions as being a violation of women's reproductive rights and wants Texas gals to get their way by refusing sex and other favors for their men.

“Don’t give in if your man, boyfriend, husband, toyboy is not voting for your best interests, your reproductive health – do not sleep with that man! I don’t care how cute or charming he is! I don’t care if he is your husband of many years. Resist! Go swimming! Meditate!” Norris writes.

“Do not make him dinner, do not go fetch him a cold beer from the fridge, do not iron that shirt, hell, do not change that diaper … do not make his life a little nicer this summer if he does not ‘get it’ and learn to respect women!”

Norris is a staunch supporter of Wendy Davis, the pink-sneakered Texas Democrat who filibustered the bill last week and caused it to fail by running out the clock on a special session. The bill was not only destined to pass the legislature, but is supported by 62 percent of Texas residents.

Rather than respecting the opposing position, Norris accused pro-life women of being "oppressed" and of harming their peers with their wrong-headed judgment and beliefs.

“These women, like women who hurt other women everywhere by criticizing and judging them, need to wake up as well. Women hurting other women is suicidal. Women who play into the hand of patriarchy need to be shown the way out of that prison.”

Norris fumed, “This may sound a bit extreme and some will say sex should not be used as a ‘weapon’ but let’s get real, this is Texas, and men in Texas who have not woken up and smelled the coffee simply do not deserve any loving.”

If this sounds a bit extreme to you, you're not alone. Norris' rant received hundreds of comments and they were starkly mixed.

As one commenter wrote: "You mean women should be responsible for their sexual activity instead of making the unborn pay for their mistakes? Fascinating logic."

Another asked: "Since when has loving, passionate sex between consenting adults come to be viewed as a 'weapon' against their partner? A 'sex strike' is a destructive, passive aggressive behavior of abuse, designed solely to punish a partner regarding their difference(s) of opinion and or conformity. How is that possible in a 'loving' relationship? Just as damaging, such hurtful propaganda also leaves legitimate women’s issues open to rebuke as simply being 'sexist temper tantrums' of an immature personality."

Other voices were in agreement and echoed Norris' rage: "Women from Texas need to start emigrating and asking for political asylum in other states. There is no more for them in Texas than there is in Afghanistan or Pakistan where the Taliban murders them for grocery shopping. These criminals need to become extinct forever. Denying them a beer, a donut or even sex for a week or two is not enough. They will pass legislation making it illegal for wives to withhold sex from their husbands, and claim it is 'god’s law.' These people need to have their existence erased from the face of the earth, forever."

Another person had an entirely different take on the matter: "I guess this is a good thing. Fewer pro-choice women having sex means fewer abortions!"

The war on women rages on and every time I see images of the Texas statehouse filled with angry women chanting, "Hands off my body" I remember when I was one of them and didn't want to hear any other point of view but my own. I was filled with the same anger, the same hostility toward men, all of which went away when I was healed by just one touch of the Lord's tender hand. From that moment on, it was like scales had fallen from my eyes and I could suddenly see all that I had refused to see before.

Pray really hard for these women to be healed of their rage because once committed "pro-choicers" see the light, they become indomitable defenders of life. Being hard-headed really does work both ways!
