OK City Black Mass is Sold Out

OK Civic CenterOrganizers of a satanic black mass to be held in the Oklahoma City Civic Center on September 21 say they have sold all 88 tickets to the controversial event.

ABC News is reporting that Adam Daniels, co-founder of Dakhma of Angra Mainyu "church" said the ritual will be considerably "tamer" than the usual black mass due to state health laws that forbid public urination, nudity, animal sacrifice and other foul behaviors associated with the usual ritual.

"One of the dictates of the church is not only to educate the members but to educate the public and to debunk the Hollywood-projected image of our beliefs,” Daniels told ABC.

Included in the "show" will be a performance by a band known as “God in a Machine” as well as readings that call for the renunciation of God. An exorcism of the Holy Spirit will also be performed on a participant in a bizarre rite intended to erase the seal of baptism.

Male participants and audience members are being encouraged to wear black, hooded, full-length robes. Others are encourage to come dressed in evening wear.

He went on to confirm that all 88 tickets to the event - which sell for $17.50 each - have been sold.

Despite an outpouring of protests from Christians around the country, and a successful lawsuit filed by the Catholic Church which resulted in the return of a consecrated host intended for use at the ritual, the city's civic center says they are obligated to allow the rite to go forward.

"Mr. Daniels must abide by our local ordinances, our fire codes and all of our state laws," Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Jennifer Lindsey-McClintock told ABC News. "No bloodletting of any kind will be allowed.”

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin called the black mass a "disgusting mockery" of the Catholic faith that ought to be repellant to Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

"It may be protected by the First Amendment, but that doesn't mean we can't condemn it in the strongest terms possible for the moral outrage which it is," Fallin said last month. "It is shocking and disgusting that a group of New York City 'satanists' would travel all the way to Oklahoma to peddle their filth here. I pray they realize how hurtful their actions are and cancel this event."

Oklahoma City's Archbishop Paul Coakley has also been a staunch opponent of the ritual and, in addition to suing for the return of the host, has publicly criticized city organizers for allowing this blasphemous activity to take place on their premises.

"We're astonished and grieved that the civic center would promote as entertainment and sell tickets for an event that is very transparently a blasphemous mockery of the mass," Coakley said.

The Archbishop is calling on Catholics in his Archdiocese to counteract the black mass through prayer and penance. He has asked all parishes to recite the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel at the conclusion of every Mass through the feast of the Archangels on September 29. He is also asking that each parish conduct a Eucharistic Holy Hour with Benediction to honor Christ's Real Presence in the Eucharist sometime before the 21st of September.

On the day of the black mass, Archbishop Coakley is inviting all Catholics, Christians and people of good will to join him in prayer for a Holy Hour, outdoor Eucharistic Procession and Benediction at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Oklahoma City at 3 p.m.

"We will pray to publicly manifest our faith in the Lord and our loving gratitude for the gift of the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of our lives," he said.
