Breitbart.com is reporting on the rallies which are being staged by the national pro-life group Students for Life of America (SFLA) and its partner, Pro-Life Future. The #WomenBetrayed initiative is urging citizens around the country to demand that their states investigate, prosecute and defund Planned Parenthood after an undercover investigation exposed the organization’s business of harvesting and selling baby body parts.
According to a blog by SFLA founder Kristan Hawkins, the title #WomenBetrayed was chosen rather than the trending hashtag #PPSellsBabyParts because the group’s aim is to get a message across to Planned Parenthood’s base – the women who don’t know that Planned Parenthood is the abortion giant of the country, to the middle-of-the-road Americans who think that Planned Parenthood is all about 'women’s health'. We are talking to them, meeting them where they are at,” Hawkins writes.
Selling the remains of aborted children is a betrayal of the very patients – women and children – who Planned Parenthood claims to care about.
“Women are supposed to help and support other women – not use them for profit and sell the body parts of their prenatal children,” Hawkins says.
But that’s not the only way Planned Parenthood has been less than honest with their clientele.
“Women have been betrayed for years by Planned Parenthood — telling them that they can’t have their child and achieve their goals, telling them abortion is safe, telling them that abortion is simply the removal of some tissue and the turning around and selling that ‘tissue,’ which they know are body parts, for profit," Hawkins says.
The latest undercover sting, initiated by the pro-life Center for Medical Progress, was “only the latest infraction in a long list of horrific behaviors, including the covering up of statutory rape, the overbillingtaxpayers, the aiding and abetting sex traffickers, scheduling sex-selective abortions and accepting money to abort African American children,” she adds.
An organization with this kind of criminal track record doesn’t deserve more almost a half-billion taxpayer dollars a year.
“Planned Parenthood had a net profit of $127 million in 2013-2014,” Hawkins points out. “Let them fundraise and support themselves like any other business in the country that isn’t deceiving women and making money off of taking the lives of the most vulnerable and selling their body parts.”
For this reason, today’s protests are also aimed at generating support for the defunding of Planned Parenthood.
Since the scandal broke two weeks ago, public sentiment toward Planned Parenthood has not been favorable, and this was never more evident than when the small SFLA decided to launch this nationwide protest.
“Once we came up with the idea to have rallies simultaneously across the country calling for the investigation and defunding of Planned Parenthood, we activated our extensive grassroots network and within 72 hours, we had dozens of cities signed up to host a rally. As of today, we have over 55 cities!” Hawkins says.
“The outrage against taxpayer dollars funding Planned Parenthood is palpable. This is the time to defund them and Americans are going to make their voices heard on July 28,” Hawkins says.
