DOCAT Launched at WYD!

docatYOUCAT, the hugely popular Youth Catechism, which is based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church and has sold millions of copies worldwide since its introduction in 2011, now has a follow-up - DOCAT!

Introduced in Krakow yesterday, DOCAT draws upon Scripture, YOUCAT, the Catechism and the Compendium of Catholic Social Teaching to guide teens into putting their faith in action in today's world. .

The idea for DOCAT came about shortly after YOUCAT was introduced at the 2011 World Youth Day in Madrid. Bernhard Meuser, founder of the YouCat Foundation, said that following the YouCat’s publication they received several emails from youth in the United States saying, “now we know what our faith is. What do we do? Please, do a Do-Cat!”

The idea for publishing a new book on how to practically put faith into action began with these emails from the youth themselves, and the concept was quickly supported by Vatican officials.

Written with help from church and business leaders, social activists and young people in a popular Q-and-A format, it guides young people in conscience formation and Catholic action on social and political issues. It shows Catholics how to apply Gospel values to poverty, imbalance of wealth, employment and unemployment, the use of natural resources and environmental concerns, terrorism, immigration and abortion, among other topics.

DOCAT also features inspirational and insightful quotes from Catholic leaders and saints, including St. Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, Pope Francis and Pope Benedict; excerpts from Francis' magisterial teaching; and important statements from his immediate predecessor regarding the four principles of Catholic social teaching: the dignity of the human person, the common good, subsidiarity and solidarity.

A DOCAT app also is available for all World Youth Day participants. Through the app young people will be able to start groups, participate in discussions and commit on the spot to study DOCAT and do acts of justice as a present to the pope, who, in writing the foreword to DOCAT, shared his dream with youth on how to change the world.

"DOCAT answers the question: 'What should we do [as Catholics]?' It is like a user's manual that helps us change ourselves with the Gospel first, and then our closest surroundings, and finally the whole world," says Pope Francis in the foreword of DOCAT. "For with the power of the Gospel, we can truly change the world."
