12 Hours of Prayer for Charlie Gard Begins Tonight!

charlie gard's fightBelievers from around the world are committing to pray for 12 hours for 11-month old Charlie Gard, who is dying of mitochondrial depletion syndrome in a London hospital, whose fate may be decided tomorrow at England’s High Court.

Rev. Patrick Mahoney, a prolife activist who is assisting Charlie’s parents, launched a Facebook event page in which he’s calling for prayer for the hearing in which the court will review new evidence claiming that medical therapies could improve Charlie’s condition.

The judge in the case, Mr. Justice Francis, is the same judge who ruled that Charlie’s condition could not be improved by new treatments, such as the nucleoside therapy being offered in the United States that Charlie’s parents are desperately seeking for their son.

The boy’s parents, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, raised more than $1 million dollars for the treatment, and have since received offers from medical institutions willing to provide free care, if the Great Ormond Street Hospital would agree to release the child. To date, they have not done so, and were about to discontinue Charlie’s life support when researchers at the Vatican’s Bambino Gesu hospital provided additional information attesting to the efficacy of new treatments for the child.

The hospital called for another court hearing, which took place on Monday, during which time Judge Francis told the parents that he would be “delighted” to change his mind about allowing Charlie to be released for further treatment, but that it would take “drastic” new evidence for him to do so. The court session, which was described as being “tense,” was adjourned until tomorrow to enable the parents to produce their evidence.

In other words, Thursday’s hearing will be a matter of life or death for Charlie.

As a result, Rev. Mahoney is calling the faith community around the world to join in 12 hours of prayer beginning at 5:00 a.m. London time (12:00 a.m. EST in America) and end at 5:00 p.m. (12:00 p.m. EST).

“We know through prayer we can see God shift, shape and transform history and we are believing God for a miracle in the case of Charlie Gard. Blessings and thank you for standing with Charlie and his family!” he writes on Facebook.

During this 12 hours of intensified prayer, offer whatever you can for Charlie - the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, your daily Mass and/or all of your sacrifices and sufferings of the day. We know that God will hear us!

"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." (Mark 11:24)
