The parents of the man who murdered six people in an assassination attempt on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords on Saturday are said to be sick with grief over their son's actions.
The Arizona Republic is reporting that Amy and Randy Loughner have no idea what drove their son to commit such a heinous act this weekend. According to a neighbor, the couple are sick with grief and weeping uncontrollably.
"They can't talk without breaking down and just crying," said neighbor Wayne Smith to KTAR-620 radio. The couple is "doing their best, you know, they're hurting."
He continued: "It's just as bad on them as it is anybody else. It wasn't them that did this heinous thing. It was an individual who's their son."
The neighbors are concerned about the condition of the Loughners. "She's in really bad shape and we're hoping we don't have to take her to the hospital," Smith told the station. "He's a mess and she's worse."
